Before being suckered into Polaris' brand oil for the wifes trailboss, I wanted to see what most of you are running in a popular aftermarket oil? Also, is there a common filter out there or is the Polaris filter a must-buy?

Steve

As for the oil, the Polaris oil is a synthetic 0W40. I have not yet found a synthetic oil in this weight, or i would switch. If you want to run 5W30, 10W30, or 10W40, I would run a good synthetic such as Mobil 1 or Amsoil.

As for the oil filter, there are several out there that will fit. If you are not against Fram, you can get a #6607A. Also, if you have an Autozone in the area, you can get Duetch(sp) and use a D371. If you run a search on oil filters, several guys have posted several different numbers, these are the ones I could remember.

Polaris uses synthetic oil straight out of the crate? I always thought that you werent suppose to tell everything seats in. Thats really wierd. I heard synthetic cause problems in seating the rings. Oh well i guess you learn something new everyday

All new (since 1998) Corvettes come from the factory with Mobil 1 synthetic, however Royal Purple recommends 1500 mile break-in before running their oil.You can't go wrong using the oil the factory recommends.

I used a Fram 6607 and the 7317(same as the 6607, but longer) and 5W-30 Mobil-1 in the Sportsman I use to have.

John Deere makes a 0w40 synthetic but if I remember right it isn't a heck of alot cheaper than the Polaris oil.
