Thanks for that stroker, it eliminates another potential cause I have where my machine won't idle. I have replaced the needle and seat, the air filter, spark plugs, a spark plug boot that was reading 10K instead of 5K and I still have the problem. Rgds

ya thats pretty common. have you taken out the idle fuel screw soft plug?, if not do so and turn the screw out 3 turns from a softley seated [closed] position. if that doesn't work increase the pilot jet 1 size up. it's best to remove the carb to do this as the soft plug requires drilling and the use of a screw to remove it. hope this helps......stroker

Have you checked the ETC?

There is no ETC on this model. Removed the carb and found that the rubber adapter that connects the carb to the engine has a 1 inch split in it which would allow air in. Will get a replacement sent out as we live over 100K/m from the nearest town.

Thanks Stroker and Sportsman 70003 for your help and advice, it is greatly appreciated.
Rgds

Yeah those are a common failure I've had to replace 2 of them. Also your 2004 600 does have the ETC check your throttle housing thats where its located.

Sorry, I thought ETC stood for Electronic Throttle Control. Is the part you are refering to a ferrule screw adjustment on the actual cable just before it goes into the throttle housing itself. and is covered by a rubber sleeve.

Sportsman: Question on the reply to the fellow who's machine won't idle you mentioned ETC on the throttle body and I being a rookie do not know what that stands for? I also own a 04-600 sportsman that had anti-freeze leak from the water pump area, reading the threads on possible fixes I found a loose clamp on pump housing. A great site of ATV riders helping each other. Is this ETC fixed or adjustable? Thanks Denny
