Hawkeye brakes

why is there just one disc brake on the back and two on the front? and one of my front brake tubes broke and the handbrake didnt work from the fluid drain but the foot rear brake still worked. since the handbrake does the rear also, how come the foot brake didnt stop working?

There is only one brake on the back I believe because it is a solid rear axle and one brake will control both sides, my 500 sportsman is the same. The only ones I know of that have two brakes in the back are the ones with turf mode (ATP X2). As for the brake pedal still working it has its own resevour and is meant for what youused it for (emergency ,brake fail)

k, i get it. is there any way to disengage the left hand lever brake from controlling the back brakes? so the left hand lever is the front and the foot lever is the back?

The brake pressure is not the same also. When you squeeze the brake lever 60% force goes to the front while 40% goes to the back. Its what you would want even if the system was separate like on a Steet bike.

I'm sure there's a way to make it so the lever controls just the front brakes, but not sure that's the greatest idea. The rear brake on the Polaris' isn't that strong. It's meant more as a holding brake rather than a braking brake. What I mean is, when the foot brake is used all by itself, it is most effective while the ATV is stopped and you need to hold it there like on a hill or something. As opposed to hauling it down from speed, or using it to lock up the rear while going fast, etc.
That's been my experience anyway.

so, is it bad to hold the hand brake lever and do a burnout in 2wd since it would drag the brakes? also is there any way to modify it so the handle was front and the foot pedal was back?
