Default Winch Install

Hi, I am new here. I have an 08 800 Sportsman. I am planning on installing a warn rt30 winch on it. I was wondering what you all did with the Polaris plastic cover where the winch now mounts. Did you cut yours and put it back? Do they make one that has a cut out in it for the winch?

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

I hear Polaris has one with the cut-out and it's pretty cheap. I'm going to be looking for one also, so let us know.

Well yes and no, I am going to cut mine out to get it to cover the winch, and with the new winches polaris dont make a cover(yet) for the center drum, I tried to get a 07 one but could not find one, and one company said it was discounted(not sure if true). The grill cover sells for about just under 30, I bought one on ebay for 10, so I have two now and will cut one to see how it works. Just installed the XT30 on mine, was not hard at all...Good luck....

This is where I tried to order my cut out one, few things, first like I said they told me it was discontinued, and second it is not for the center drum as in the rt/xt winches, I was going to get it and just cut a little more from it for 8.81 I figured the hell with it, and they dont list any 08 parts as of yet, here so this is listed under the 07 model, same part........

If you do find one please send me a note....

Just need to ask, why do people "cut out" their front cover? I mean its all dark in there anyhow, I cant see what it really would cover up to make it worth it. Does it keep out water or something?

Please someone tell me the advantage to cutting the plastic cover so it will fit over the winch.

Same reason some will pay hundreds for fancy wheels, special paint, ect. They like the looks even though nothing is added to how the vehicle will perform. I think the cut-out gives a more finished look to the machine rather than just a bolt on look.
