Hello I have a 2008 sp800 I am installing the switch and the bulbs myself that I purchased from a local auto parts store. My switch is an Illuminated style so it has 3 connections on the back 2 will be used for the wiring already installed from the factory and the third Im guessing is to light the switch up when in the on position.
I would like to know where it is recommended to run that wire on the bike (where to)?
Thanks for a great site and good peoples!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a plug under the cowl with 2 wires going into it, with female ends, one wire is blue and the other is red from the factory. which is the hot? which is the ground? I assume the red is the hot and the blue would be the ground. The switch I bought has 3 male ends on the back of it, 1 says earth ground, 1 says on accessorie, 1 says supply volts. I had the blue wire to the earth ground and the red wire to the supply volts when I turn the ignition on the switch would light up but no rear lamps? then I tryed the red wire on the accessorie post instead and when I turn the ignition on I got rear lamps and the switch would light up when I turned them off? Any suggestions?

Whats weird is I ran the red wire to the switch end saying (supply volts), and the blue wire to the (accessorie on) posisition and there is no wire hooked to the one that says (earth ground) and yet the lights function properly when the key is in the on posistion and I flick the switch on or off, but the switch does not light up still? so I was thinking why not just jump one of the other 2 wires to the (earth ground) post also or would this cause electrical problems?
I just dont understand how the lights function properly now when theres no wire to the earth ground terminal?
