2004 Scrambler Electrical Rebuild Help!! Fire...
#1
I am looking for some advice on the most cost effective way to rebuild a 1/2 burned 2004 Scrambler 500 4x4. The wheeler started on fire while in my garage with a charger hooked up to it (nearly burned down my house!, very lucky!!). the entire front fender melted. and the wiring harness is toast along with all the electrical components. Does anybody have any great ideas on where to find cheap used parts (cdi, ignition, voltage regulator, wiring harness, etc)? I am kind of hoping to get a racer to respond back with the bare essentials to make this thing run. I can figure out the mechanical stuff but am looking for some help on basically the entire electrical package from the seat forward. I was thinking about replacing the burnt up thumb throttle with a twist throttle, maybe skipping the other handle bar switching stuff and putting my headlights on a toggle switch or something.
Any help is much appreciated! The wheeler basically looks like a piece of bacon right now. Depressing.
I will also be looking for a gas tank, oil tank, coolant tank, radiator fan, front fender if anyone has spares.
Thanks for looking!

I would just go on ebay and find all of the parts. . . I would just get the harness and all that. Or do a local search for crashed toy resellers and get a wrecked one for all the parts. Where are you located?? We have a bunch of places here in Minnesota that deal in repairable ATV's ! ! !

I live in maplewood mn and am having a hard time finding used parts for my 2004. Most of the parts have to be from a 2004-2006.
Thanks! I will continue the part search.

I had the charger on 2 amps. I am guessing there was a short in the system and when I put the charger on the battery it slowly heated up the short and up she went. It sucks. There are 2 things I learned; 1. I will always remove batteries before I charge them. 2. Have at least 2 fire extinguishers on hand at all times. I was really lucky I was able to get it out before burning my whole house down (it was int he garage when it went up.
i usually ride on the lakes in the winter and then in WI in the summer. I have some work to do b4 I will be doing any riding for awhile. Thanks everyone for the advice. I will give it a try! Is there a way to post pic's on this? I have some cool pics of it toasted.
