I sometimes carry my X2 in the back of my F350 and was also concerned about the front brush guard knocking out my rear window. Consequently, I built an easily removable framework out of 2x12's to keep the ATV from getting too close. Works great.

Guitarpicker Have you had any trouble with damaging the tailgate while riding it in?

Rowe, I have one of those fifth wheel louvered tailgates which I remove. I prop the ramps on the truck bed.

I just purchased the Louisiana Guard Dog and i would recomend it to anyone who hauls in the bed of a truck. It took a little while to get it set up for the first time but now i can load up and be on the road in less than 5 min. Plus when you are riding you can lock your ramps to the tuck so noboy can walk off with them.

Never heard of the 5 1/2 bed but I have a 6 foot bed and if i back it in it fits perfect...... You don't even have to strap it down but i do. 08 500 sportsman and 04 f-150 is the perfect combo

To answer the question about gas mileage, I would say a quad in the bed will get you better mileage than a quad on a trailer. Both have the same kind of wind resistance problems but the trailer adds extra weight and an extra axles friction. Just a guess. To put a friend's 2002 Sportsman 500 in the bed of my truck we had to take off the roller fairlead to squeeze it in. I also put a piece of plywood to keep it from hitting the back window of my GMC 2500 short bed. My next truck is looking to be a Nissan Titan Crew Cab with a 7 foot bed.

I have a tri-fold aluminum ramp rated at 1200 lbs. I trust the ramp but not the tailgate cables. The X2 gets the trailer.

stumbled into a deal one day while wondering around the auto dept. at Walmart, (of all places), paid $79 for STEEL, 12"x 84" arched trifold ramps that are rated at 1000# each and fold up to about 30" long, was a bit skeptical at first since they look to have a rather smooth finish, but the wheeler grabs on to the individual cross spokes and climbs right up with no slippage at all!
Tailgate on the F150 takes the weight like a champ, (have actually had much more weight on it then this in the past), and I tie the ramps to the rear tie downs in the back of the bed with the included safety straps.
As brought up earlier, my only issue is the rear window and the brush guard!
