The 2001 500 duse is a H.O notice the 40 mm carb vs the 34mm Stanadard SP500.

We have both a Green 97 SP500 and a yellow 2001 SP500 H.O The H.O has more power in the mid and high range acceleration and a "slightly" faster top end. I myself would not bother buying the cam and carb for its performance gain.

On the trails you can not tell the ATVs apart in performance and the top end of the 97 still hit over 50+ mph easily and has better 25 mpg over the H.Os 20 mpg which makes a differance on long rides.

all SP500 2001 and over are H.Os try one out to see if its worth it to you.

I would be interested to just see what the "cam" change by its self would do performance wise.

1999 was the first "official" year for EBS being standard issue. In all actuallity, they started putting EBS standard on the late 1998's.

My dad owns and ATV repair shop, and he "upgraded" my sister's '98 500 with the HO cam and a little bit of carb jetting several years ago. There is an increase in "pep", and she often outruns our friends on 500 HO's - if she can get the jump, she will leave my 700 behind out of the box.

The differences in the HO and non HO are the Cam, Carburetor, Exhaust (HO has larger diameter exhaust pipe), and the HO has a heavier built bottom end.
