is the radiator full? can you see the water moving whith the cap off while idling ... might want to start by making sure you can see light thru your radiator fins/cooling area and its not clogged with mud, also spin your fan blade over by hand with the key off and see if it spins freely or if it might be binding up

ok I checked the water level it was about 1 pint low. I filled it up and let it idle for about 30 mins. The water is moving in the rad. so I think my water pump is ok, but it never got hot enough for the fan to come on or over heat I am going to try to idle it around a while tomorrow to see if I can get it hot.

Your water went somewhere - either a dirty radiator like itch said, a slight leak in a hose or fitting, or the water pump.
The waterpump (located on the right side lower engine - where the 2 hoses are) has a weep hole to allow for coolant to escape if the seals start going bad. You can look/feel underneath the waterpump area to check for leakage. The downfall to this is that the weep hole often gets plugged with mud, preventing the coolant from coming out of this weep hole.
You also need to check the counter balance sump oil level - the waterpump is actually located inside this sump, and there is no actual "replacing" the waterpump like you would on a car, but you replace 2 seals and a bearing on the shaft driving the pump - if there is any evidence of coolant in this oil, you are going to need waterpump repair. The counter balance sump dipstick is located on the right side of the engine - looking down from the carburetor you will see a "****" with a slot for a flat screwdriver.

I checked it again today and I have still not got it to overheat. I think it may have been low on water. There is small hose near the seat that antifreeze is coming out of on the left side. I am wondering if I have a bad fan switch, what do you guys think? Thanks to all for the help.
