Substitute for Polaris chaincase lubricant?
#1
I was informed on this forum that you can (should?) use Mobil 1 transmission fluid in the hubs on a 4x4.
What is the non Polaris replacement for the chaincase lubricant for my 98 Scrambler 400 4x4 (two stroke)?
Thanks
Paul

The chaincase lube contains Molybdenum Disulfide which is usually not found in normal oils (with the exception of FoMoCo break in oil)
However, ... A less expensive substitute is available at a Fleet Farm near you. Use the Arctic Blue Snowmobile Chaincase Oil. You can save a few cents and it contains the necessary ingredients to make a chain last at 8,000 rpm.
The tech at my local dealerthip laughed at the idea of using ATF or automotive oils in the transmissions of snowmobiles and atvs. He said the shop made good money off of the customers that did.
