replacing all the sprockets on the 97 scrambler 4x4. the smallest sprocket that sits next to the rear brake disc seems loose. does this sprocket "float" like the rear disc..? thare is a groove in the output shaft for possibly a clip of some sort but never had one or missing. seems if thare was a clip it would remove some of the play in the sprocket...any thoughts appreciated. thanks

There is supposed to be a clip, I guess youd call it a c-clip, look at the parts breakdown on bike bandit and it will show it.

yea both my 1998 400 sport with the floating brake disc on the output shaft of teh trans 2 and my 2001 500 scrambler both have play and a clip. its teh type of clip that goes most of teh way around and has 2 holes and you need the spredding pliers with the 2 needles to spred them apart to get it out of the groove.
