Hi all
Looking for some help...We recently removed/cleaned the float bowl and jets from a 250 2stroke Xplorer. After reassembly, the machine idles fine but backfires through the carb under acceleration. Any advise? Thank you!

A few things come to mind that may be causing your problem:
Check the nuts holding the cylinder to the engine base - make sure they are tight (sometimes they loosen, causing an air leak).
Try lowering the carburetor needle (raise the clip 1 notch) and see if there is any improvement to the situation, many people buy a "generic" carb kit for these and install - but the carb kit comes with everything EXCEPT the needle jet (long tube in the center of carb that the needle slides up and down in), which is especially prone on 2 strokes to oversize due to vibrations of the engine "rattling" the needle in the bore. Lowering the needle places more of the needle's taper into the bore of the jet, reducing the amount of fuel delivered. Use a new spark plug each time you make changes.
Float level in the carb is pretty important on these 2 strokes - float level too high will deliver too much fuel and "overload" the system.

i have tried all you have montioned , i'll get the bike to run for awhile an then it starts up all over again the bike ran fine yesterday put it on my truck to ho riding today got there started it up an bingo the same thing it will start it will run on idle but give it gas an nothing bogs an if you continue it will backfire through exhaust?
i came home took bike apart checked the gas filter plenty coming out took apart carb cleaned every thing there is put it back together,an bingo the same thing played with it for a while an as usual it cleared up an ran fine for about a1/2 hour before i shut it down? i was told that piece can't be replaced it is pressed in ?

The "long tube in the middle" contains the needle jet - to remove the needle jet, you unscrew the top of the carb and remove the "slide" ,, then remove the carb bowl and unscrew the main jet (there is a washer underneath the main jet) - with these components removed, take and push the needle jet upwards, towards the top of the carb - it's out, new one goes in reverse.
Just for grins - locate the RPM limiter (retangular black box located on panel in front of handle bars) - should be the black box to the left if you are standing in front of the quad - in the wires coming out of this black box, unplug the single BLACK wire - try running with this BLACK wire unplugged and see if it makes a difference.
