A local shop I'm starting to buy parts from told me today that I didnt have to buy the expensive oil for the front hubs and that automatic transmission fluid worked just as well. Does anyone else know, and if so should I use dexron, atf+4, jetaway or what. I use the high dollar mopar in my truck but that's cause it cost more than my house, I have a crappy house not an especially nice truck.

 

TYPE"F" transmission fluid is what Polaris recommends as an alternative to the demand drive fluid.
I've been using it, although I did just pick up a qt. of the Polaris demand drive fluid for $6.00... not too bad considering each hub only holds a few ounces.

Exspensive? Its $12 at our dealer and the bottle will last for 7 or 8 changes.

I only change the hubs oil once or twice a year.

 

I have a 2000 Magnum 500. Great machine. I think it is a nicer ride than my '07 Sportsman 700 EFI. More controllable. Anyway, don't cut corners with the fluids to try to save a buck or two. Not worth it to me anyway. It doesn't make sense to try to get away with cheaper fluids, and risk voiding warranties or doing damage to my $7000 machine, just to save $20 bucks a year. EVERY fluid that goes into my two Polaris machines (other than gas) comes in a blue bottle that says "Polaris" on the side. PERIOD.

 

i would stick with the polaris oil, had transmission oil in front hubs one winter and the hubs didn't work very well, went to polaris oil, been fine since

 

Hey- I am a newbie here. Just bought my first 4 wheeler. It's a 2000 Polaris Xplorer 400 4x4.
I cannot find a manual on this, the transmission fluid, or even if there is any crankcase oil in this beast. It has 800 miles on it.
Is there a procedure for changing the hub fluid somewhere on the web?

its a matter of perspective, compared to the other, the fluid is more expensive. but if it is not a good idea to put atf in there I will use the more expensive(relatively) fluid

theres a link to some specs. see if that helps. for the owners manual you could just get a service manual from your local dealership that would have everything you would ever need in it.

 

Thank you. I did find that. Its a supplement to the 400 manual that was printed for the 300 (244cc engine spec).
