New Sportsman 800, Antifreeze in my oil?
#11
no the oil does not seprate. ya its low for sure and if there is a real runny green bighter color then its antifreeze. unless some one put the wrong fluid in the wrong spot. if it has antifreeze in the engine dont keep running it for sure.

As for the pic with the low oil on the dip-stick....My Factory Service Manual says when checking oil level:
1.Set Quad on level surface
2.Start and run motor for 20-30 seconds. This will return oil to its true level in the oil tank.
3.Stop engine, and remove dipstick and wipe dry with CLEAN rag.
4.Reinstall dipstick,and screw in place.
NOTE: the dipstick MUST be screwed "COMPLETELY" in to get an accurate reading!!...Hope that makes you feel better too!!!...LOL...

Thats what I was thinking, My wife said the oil should float on the antifreeze but that is not the case with my sample so I don't know what to think. I am only listening to the wife on this one cause she is a chemical engineer. My oil level when checked with the machine warmed up is allmost all the way up past the twist in the dipstick.

caper on your quads, you actually have an oil tank, the 800's are a wet sump, just to clarify. i would take it to the dealer, and see what they think. tell them you want a comression and leakdown test and you want to see the results.

What are the correct steps in checking the oil on the 800 Sportsman ?.........Do you still need to run the engine for 20-30 seconds?.........Caper..........

Compression and leakdown test, got it. They should warranty that right?
My owners manual says to park on level surface, wipe the dipstick clean, reinstall the dipstick completely, but do not lock it. remove and check the oil level. It does not even mention running the machine.
Some shots of the seperation

Yes you can see the differance for sure.........You should show the dealer these pics!!.........Caper.........I can pour some oil in a glass tomorrow and see if there is any color differance like your showing....After it settles...How long do you think that took after you poured it for the color differance?...............Caper...........
