Any problems with Polaris winch?
#11
I got my new contactor in the mail Saturday and put it on this past weekend. That seemed to take care of my problem again. I sure hope I am not going to have to replace this thing every 6 months.

If your winch has a ORANGE pull teather with "POLARIS" on it, it's the junk Chinese "Polaris" winch and you should replace it. It's 95% trouble. Mine were replaced twice and still gave me trouble. Now I have a Warn 3.0 RT and life's great again.
If your winch has a RED pull teather with "WARN" written on it, you have a high quality winch.
I think it's quite sad to see that Polaris has stooped so low on this one teaming up with this Chinese junk winch. I think it's a bad reflection on the company and de-values all of their products.

Sorry to say it's not just their winches....

I have this years model polaris 3500. Its only about 6 mo old, but has impressed me so far. I have used it to pull a large boat lift out of the lake sideways with the front legs of the lift dragging in the sand and the rear wheels settled into the sand about 12 inches. It strained a little but never stopped pulling. Time will tell the overall quality I guess.

I've had a few Polaris winches and haven't had any troube with them yet. I have had some problems with a couple Warn winches that are supposed to be better than the Polaris ones. No matter what brand you get some are good and some aren't so good. The quality control on Chinese stuff is probably bad enough to have one good one out of a crate full of lemons.

when i purchased my 08 500 this past july i got the xtended 5yr warranty and i bought the orange teathered polaris winch with the machine....and yes it is dealer installed. I have not had one problem with it...however it is noisy!!! My friends warn is quiet, so whats the deal???? Should my winch have the 5yr warranty coverage???

Yeah the "Polaris" winch definitely is not a WARN. Mine sounds like crap, has from day one. The gears sound like there is sand in them, lol. But I must say it hasn't failed me yet(knocks on wood)..I'm sad to say I am waiting though. I have drug quite a few logs onto a trailer using a ****** block with it. It will drag the 850 with all 4 tires sliding without stalling...but again it sounds terrible..cheap IMO.
I might mount it to my trailer and get a Warn replacement. A winch is something you definitely need to have confidence in IMO
