i took my atv in to get some work done on it,it was creeping in low gear only, hard to shift gears, and sliping when you pulled out, from what i've been told on here i most likely had a clutch alignment issue,ok they called yesterday and said it was ready,i ask what they did to it, they said the only problem i had was the belt was about to break in two or three places and that they would show me the belt, and that the new belt fixed all of my problems,my question is do you all thank that was all my trouble;i'm going today to pick it up,it's been there for three weeks,i just wanted to know before i went, anything i should ask or look for.....thanks in advance.wayout,out...................

The belt is the first thing to check on most creeping issues then front clutch bearings hanging up.

I'm a believer in clutch maintenence.
IMO,They should have removed/cleaned everything while in there.
OK, I'm not a "P" guy. Maybe someone can explain to me why the belt would make it creep. I'd think that if the front clutch has a problem in it making it contact the belt making it creep.
Do these front clutchs have rollers?

A worn belt can have threads or spots that hit the sheaves making them contact or can have bulges in them or even tight spots.
The front clutch doent have rollers it runs on buttons and slides. The weights pivot on pins and some have bushings. The spring is where you get the preload tension. When a belt doesnt sovle the creeping then you go to the spring and the bushings on the main clutch shaft they can get gaulded and hang.Hope this sheds a little light but it is very hard to explain exactly how these work.

A likely problem is the plastic *shim / bushing* in the secondary . The rear shieves are to close together .

I take my wife's SP500 in next week for the same problem, its a place I trust. They said that was the first thing to check and since she could smell hot rubber before this started it may be the belt. Anyplace from a new belt to $500 tops for the repair.

wayout here, i went and picked my atv up,and i had to pay 145.00 before they would let me have it,polaris is not wanting to pay for it,they're saying the type of belt problem i had was from abuse, they called it flex cracks between cogs, they're sending them the belt, hopefully they will pay for it,i told the service man it would have been nice to know i had to pay for this before i drove 50 miles, because i didn't have enough cash on me,luckily i had a credit card on me,with gas 4.00 a gallon,i wasn't about to come back, now for the good news, the belt fixed my problem,no more creeping in low, changes gears easy now,and no more slipping, they said they thought i got a bad belt from the factory, because i've always had this problem,it's just got worst as time went on,thanks guys for the help;wayout,out.................
