Default sportsman 800 - Check Engine light comes on

The check engine light has come one twice now when I got the front end stuck in some water etc... I think a sensor is going off or something like that. It starts to sputter etc, the last time after about 1 hrs it started running good again (I was at a derby and we couldn't just "stop" in the middle of nowhere.

It also appears to happen once i do the override in reverse but that could just be a co-incedence since i'm stuck and that is an attempt to get out.

I've now cleaned the Air filter 100% by removing everything including the housing and cleaning it and installing a new air filter, I'm changing both spark plugs tonight (Champion plugs were in it, not sure if I should use a different brand) and I double checked all the electrical connections.

What do you all use to water proof the connections? Grease or spray etc?

Thanks for your tips I'd like to not run into the overheating or whatever is sending the check engine light on next time i'm out.

P.S. Later on in the same derby I went through water up to the lights with zero problems the time it happened the RAD was pushed up tight to a bank while the tire was buried in some water. which is why I think overheat vrs water wetness etc

Vince
