Default Tire Pressure

I have mudlite xl's. buddy of mine say's to run low pressure like 3lb's, when riding rocky trail's. I keep 5 to 5.5 and have not had a flat, no plugs, 450 mile's in WV, which is rocky terrain, not like out west. He ran that 3 to 3.5 lb's last time out and needed three plug's for a hole in his terracross' radial's. What's your experience?

Outback, When we went to H&M last Oct, I ran my stock tires on my 700. They were the Carliel bad lands. I kept them @ 5psi with no problems.Your right it is very rocky there in places, But I think a softer tire would create problems! Good luck!

Yea, I have seen conflicting info. on this topic. But two people I know well recommend
to run the PSI slightly more on those WV and Western,MD trails, rock, gravel and hard pack.
They claim less puntures even with 6ply Rad tires, so I don't know. I haven't done it yet for
fear of losing traction with all my weight on my quads or blow outs. I have had 1 flat at GreenRidge
if you know where that is same as my cousin in a total of 4 rides there now, so I guess I am not
doing to bad?

This might not work on quads and loose gravel but when we solid rockclimb in Jeeps here in CO we air down {tread lightley} to get as much tire on the rock as poss for the most traction as poss. I run my Popo at 3psi w/ G/Y Rawhides and have never had a problem nither.

Riding tires soft is good for sand as it gives you more surface and better "flotation". If you ride soft in rocks it will give you more grip but will also make the sidewalls more inclined to puncture. I've never had any problem climbing rocks at the standard 5 lb.s per tire.
