Could someone out there please tell me where the oil tank is located at on the Scramber 400. I bought this atv used and was going to do an oil change on it. Was told that is doesnt use a filter but has a screen that needs to be removed and cleaned, but i have no idea where the screen is located.HELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPP

The 400 scrambler is a two stroke and the oil doesn't need changed. Just keep it full or it will be overhaul time. It's in front of the headlight. There is a counterbalance assembly that needs checked and changed. Look below the carb and you should see a dipstick that is threaded in to the crankcase. No filter, no screen. There is however an inline oil filter in the oil line running down to the oil pump in the motor.

I think my 2000 scrambler is the same 4x2 400. So if I understand what ur saying is u never have to actually change the oil just fill it and fill it thru that yellow dipstick and thats called the counterbalance? What oil to fill it with? Is there no other oil, transmission, gear box fluids that ever need changed. I lubed all my grease fittings wiht molly grease hope that was okay. Thanks for any help.

You don't have to change the engine oil(other than the counterbalance which is under the carburetor but it's not usually a yellow dipstick. They have always been silver or reddish/orange that I have seen. It takes 30 weight engine oil and doesn't hold very much. The engine gets it's oil from the tank in front of the headlight under the front cover. Keep it full with 2cycle oil.
The yellow dipstick you are referring to(I assume) is the trans oil. Does the dipstick have a hole on top to put your finger through? If it does thats the trans level check. There is an electrical switch right above it that cuts your knuckles everytime you remove the dipstick, it's definately the trans!
The rear axle is greased and being a 2x4 that should be it for oil.
