i have not driven the wolverine but i can tell u that if u ride them both all day u will notice a BIG difference. your back wont hurt on the sportsman, the ride is the best out there.

i haven't rode a wolverine but i do have a 2001 H.O. That thing will fly. I don't know how a wolverine can keep up w/ a H.O. but i haven't ever been on one so i wouldn't know. Like the guy above said, after a long days ride u will not be tired at all on the H.O. Mine is setup for mud and i love it. I put an inch bigger tires on it and i slowed it down like 3mph. But i like mudding, u said u didn't care. The H.O. has better suspenion, auto, true 4x4, i would think and hope more power and speed but then again i have never been on a wolverine. If i was u i would go w/ the H.O., u won't be let down i promise!

Judging from 3TV's response, it sounds to me like the Wolverine vs Sportsman is about the same situation as Wolverine vs Rubicon.

I can keep up every where we go, have to work the bike hard, and have a helluv good time doing it.

I might buy a Rubicon (or a sportsman) when I move to the Old Folks home.

My son just landed himself a Wolverine and our first ride is planned for next weekend so I will let you know how my "none" HO SP500 fares.

I was doing 55mph down a long straight road and a Wolverine passed me at a jogs pace.It maybe a 350 but it's lightest 4x4 made including 250 4x4s, it has a good power to weight ratio.

I have a SP500 and Clifton has a wolverine. I like the Wolverine, but the suspension on the SP500 allows you to ride just as aggressively with half the effort. If I were going to ride hard for 2 hours, I would be happy on either bike. if I were going to ride hard all day, I would take the SP500. I was susprised to see that the SP500 jumps and lands alot smoother than the Wolverine. Also, at least on the Wolverine I rode, it seemed to push into the corners.

On anything but smooth dry trails the Wolvernine would be fine but if it gets rough the SP easily walks away, I rode with a Wolverine a few times this summer and he could not keep up unless it was easy going. He was getting hung up on logs and rocks crashing and banging and I was just cruising through the same places. during a river crossing he started floating down stream he had to jump off and walk it across were my heavy SP once again cruised right through. The Wolverine is lighter so it is more fun to jump and all that, but vary the terrain and the SP will win. it muds better, climbs better, has way more clearance a far FAR superior ride, more power, much easier to drive in the rough due to only having to choose low range or high range and grabbing the gas. Though I should say that most atvs fare the same way against the SP not just the Wolverine. It is hard to beat the suspension ground clearance of the SP it is really awesome. If you can drive both.

xepathfinder's post reminded me of an occasion where a friends Sportsman HO did have an advantage over my Wolverine. Cruise down a rocky beach in western NFLD I had trouble keeping the SP in sight because the tremendous ground clearence and independent rear end let him sail over huge boulders that I was having to weave around and slow down to avoid.
In tight, rough trails though, I'm sure I'd be able to keep up with a sportsman easily enough.

And I think the Wolverine's light weight would make up for the better suspension of the SP if you were riding really hard. The Wolverine is alot more "flickable" and easier to turn.

As for the mud; I've no doubt that the SP is better in the mud, but when I get the Wolverine stuck I can get it out with out throwing my back out. With out a winch (or somewhere to hook it to) on the sportsman you'd be walking home if you're by yourself. When they're stuck THEY'RE STUCK!!!!!
