front hub trouble?
#1
i had a hub seal go out on my 99 sp 500 and when i changed it i also changed the sleeve that covers the coil. i torqued everything as the manual said and now my tire kicks into 4x4 without having it in 4x4.i was spinning on ice in 2wd and then the front hub kicked in and thumped just like something broke.after that it would not go in 4x4 everytime i had the switch engaged.wonder what i tore up and how much does the hillard system cost for one side?it still goes into 4 wheel drive its just unpredictable.what do i need to do?the other side works perfect and the side i switched it has like a delay and will also kick in with the switch off.

i replaced the sleeves because they were worn bad and my dealer recommended so.i torqued it to 160 inch pounds.i can unplug the wires that come from the side im having trouble from and it will still engage to 4 wheel drive.i have never had no problem out of the system until that seal started leaking.

IF there are no damaged/defective parts, then jack the front up, and loosen the wheel bearing until you can feel a slight amount of slop in that wheel(up and down).Replace castle nut/cotter pin. This may solve the problem.. Personally, i don't use the torque wrench on the front hubs:: they never seem to set(and work) the same... . Ride'em hard Polcat
