Jumbo, the 400 HO seat doesn't have the same latching system as your 06 500 EFI, it has 2 posts that snap into 2 female sockets in the seat...thats it, just a friction fit! I'm actually mad at myself for trusting it and not tieing it down.</end quote></div>

OMG that's f@#$ing stupid of Polaris. What were they thinking not having a latch on it? I thought all Polaris quads had a mechanical fastener of some type, not just good luck and friction holding it on. I've seen that system on others though. Too bad the warranty won't cover parts flying off for no @#$% reason. Thanks for the heads up. You may help same some seats. Maybe you could drive a screw into it or do something to fasten it better.

ya i know our 400 i was suprised not to see a latch. but it comes off extermly hard when its latched in place all the way. if you want to call sliding into 2 rubber grommets latched. i think the more times the seat comes off as well, the looser the fit and more warn outit willl become. i agree a bad design flaw.

Without having seen it I still wonder if there's a way to put in a cotter pin or something so it can't pull out of the hole.

on my hawkeye, it would be pretty much impossible to take the seat off without unlatching it. it has 2 little metal things that have to go into slots in the front and a latch in the back. if it isnt latched in right it would come off, and it can be really difficult at times.

Thanks for the heads up.....I have noticed the front of the seat on my 800 not latched when I thought it was and on the 700, it just pushes in too easy. I think I'm going to try to add some sort of latch to prevent the same thing from happening to me....

I lost my '03 400 seat on the highway once. Luckily I saw it fly off. It could have been a real disaster as there were some motorcycles behind me and a semi... it could have gone really bad. I pulled over and ran the 200 yards back to fish it off the highway. A little vinyl repair and almost good as new. Before we left I got something out of the tool box and must have not latched it well.

I really like the new tool box design with access through the back without removing the seat. Much bigger too.

Update...Well I proved to myself once again that WHERE you buy your ride is as important as WHAT you buy!
Stoped at my dealer today to see when the seat would be in and the office girl in charge of warrentee service came up to me, smiled and told me I should buy a lottery ticket since this was my lucky day!

Polaris is covering the seat replacement!!! WhaHooo!

My dealer, (Drilling's All Seasons Sports), went to bat for me with Polaris and they had no problem covering the replacement!
I am sure that Polaris would have denied the claim if Darrel, (the owner) wouldn't have talked to Polaris!
