Default first disapointment with SP 400 HO

Well a great trip over the weekend will end up costing more then I had planed! After driving 150 miles home yesterday I realized that we were missing a fairly nessessary piece of the new SP 400 HO...somewhere along the way we lost the seat!
At first I was a bit upset that Polaris wouldn't use a better fastening system for the seat, ( I checked both of the seats before we left for home), but figured I would just bite the bullet and replace it...that was when a looked up the part number and realized that it is going to cost me somewhere around $300 to replace it!
As most of you know, I'm not usually one that will try to blame Polaris for everything, and some of you will say, "why didn't I tie it down", and yes you may be right, but Polaris has to know that these things spend time on a trailer and normally you would expect that the entire machine would make it to your destination in one piece...not scattered across the country side!
We where just lucky that it didn't happen on the way TO the ride instead of the way back! I would have been all kinds of pissed off if I was siting at camp while everyone else was out on the trails!
Well, I just wanted to vent a bit and let everyone with a 400 HO know this could happen to them so keep this in mind for your next trip!

Yes...I did bite the bullet and begrudgingly order the new seat! This one will irratate me for a while!

yeah, I was upset about it when I first figured it would be around $100, then I actually looked it up online and I could actually feel my blood pressure rise!

Just hope everyone reads this and takes the proper precautions so it doesn't happen to anyone else!!!!

I've trailered my quads up to 80 mph without any problem with the seat. Maybe the back of the seat was latched but the front wasn't hooked on. I can't image the seat coming off if the front and back were both hooked on. I guess it's possible but I don't see how. I did find out the wind will rip the lid off the cargo box if you load the quad backward and don't fasten the lid. Mine was destroyed.

Jumbo, the 400 HO seat doesn't have the same latching system as your 06 500 EFI, it has 2 posts that snap into 2 female sockets in the seat...thats it, just a friction fit! I'm actually mad at myself for trusting it and not tieing it down.

Hey man, did you look around a little
like some third party or design type
seats. Maybe some aftermarket is
better designed with their latching
system? Just something to think about!

Yes, I agree $300 is abit steep for a
seat replacement. To make you feel
a little better, I'll share my sad story
in short. My Dad was assisting me last summer's
end with my Plow install on my former 450.
Well into the mount plate install, when I took
off the center front mount the front dropped
down. We couldn't budge it to left to find the
screw slots (covered) to mount this thing on.
My Dad was poking around to find a lip end
to hoist up with his long thick flat head screw
driver then, GUSH! My Rad with several poked
holes. I had to order a new one for $450 about as
several fins that didn't break were all mangold
and a couple damaged sides.

My Dad redeemed himself with helping replace it.

Check out EBAY too!

thanks R, I can sure relate with your story, I sometimes think I cost myself much more then I save!
I did spend several hours online searching for a more reasonable alternative but no cheese! I'm guessing that the 400 HO is still a bit too new for much aftermarket support!

But again, thanks for the suggestion!

this really surprises me as you have to get it to line up then hit it HARD to get it to lock. When its locked, you have to pull HARD to get it off. It would, however, be easy to put it on and think its locked cause I've done it. Again this is a surprise,
thanks for the heads up.

Actually, now that you mention it, mine was really never that tight. You do have to almost look between the seat and the rack to make sure it is aligned properly and push it down, but I really didn't have to push real hard to snap it in place...still mad at myself for not just putting a bungy over it!
