starting issue

I checked the voltage across the starter posts when I turn the key and and found 12.7 volts, but nothing turns.. Is that adequate voltage for the starter to start? Can I assume everythinbg is okay with the coil since I am getting power to the battery?

My Hawkeye blew a few fuses a while back and what I found was that the accessory wire under the speedo console that just hangs down when unused, had a tiny piece of metal protruding from a faulty push on connector and occasionaly would ground out on the steering shaft. It was so small you wouldn't think it would cause a problem but I hunted for a couple of weeks for it.

It is a hot wire (orange wire with a white trace) that gets power when the key is on. Its like a positive wire. I use it to power the winch witch to the relay and my oil temperature gauge. You can use it for whatever you wish.

I like to roll a piece of tin foil tight and push it into the connector and bite down on it with a filling in your teeth. It works well to clear your sinus especially if you have a little lemon juice or vinegar in your mouth. Yahoo!

Congrats Mongrol on yet another use for a hot wire.
I wonder if I could use it to recharge my anti-alien-brainwave-stealing tinfoil hat?
