Yes...I still want to do the foot-peg thing. The weght loss is minimal but what makes me curious is the ride afterwards? For those of you riding with foot-pegs...how does the ride quality differ?
Is it really easier to control in aggressive territory? Sense of security?
What about the crap the front tires throw back during mud runs and gravel?
Anybody get there foot hooked up on the tires?

Dumb question maybe...but important!

If you wanted a Banshee you should have bought one it would have been easier and cheaper. LOL

I`ve considered doing this also. I was going to do it as soon as the warranty ran out but I have grown to like them. I feel there is more control over body position with agressive riding on foot pegs. Also your feet are not as restricted allowing quicker change in positions. I still may do it but I`m not as eager as I was when first went to floor boards.

I'll be doing it here shortly.I was wondering if anyone knows if you can just cut thatpeg thats closest to the front of the 4-wheeler off, and then leave the back one on, and then buy some of those peg lookin things that you can buy from polaris and put them on some of the models for extra traction for your feet, and just weld thos onto the last peg?

I was looking into this at the end of last summer. That is very close to the method I was told. Cut the front bracket off. But instead of welding the new pegs on, you can rivit a them to a piece of sheet metal, then rivit that to the rear bracket. However, the same guy (can't remember who) on this forum who told me how also told me this. He races competatively. Unless you absolutely need the slight weight advantage he highly recommended that I not do this. The floorboards are much safer. Obviously it's up to the individual. I decided to keep the boards.

AKScrambler... I think for the most part that it is not a weght issue. Mostly a handling thing. I personnaly got used to having the floorboards between me and the ground... feeling of safety in a way. That is what kept me from doing it this year. But if all Sport quads are with pegs...it's logically the best way for agressive riding...like EasterEgg stated earlier.

EasterEgg--->Banshees are fast but too "on and off" for me...LOL The rocks at my camp would kill any poor little Shee.

Tough decision...

I like the full floor boards, it's a different riding style than a ex or shee. You can't put your sole on the end peg for added weight shift but you also don't have to worry about a stomp or a downed log getting caught on your peg and stopping you hard, breaking your foot or leg. I thought about this two, but gave up on the idea. Sorry I couldn't be more supportive of your idea. But thinking about it, I seen a moded out 400 2x4 in a back issue of DirtWheels that a company in AZ. or CA. did some cool things to make it a sand climber. Didn't win against a shee but was close.

I too thought about removing the entire floorboards. I made an improvement without getting to radical though.

Drill out the rivets holding the stock footpegs in place. Clean up the footpegs and floorboards. Bolt the footpegs back onto the floorboards but use 1/4 to 1/2 inch nylon spacers to raise the footpeg the desired amount off of the floorboard. I even sharpened the teeth of the pegs and had them sandblasted.

Another idea is to drill out all the little holes that are in the floorboards. I used a 1/2 inch drill bit and drilled them all out. Mud and other crud fall thru now much better.

Later this spring I will try adding extensions to the footpegs at a 45 degree angle for more control in corners and side hills.

I hope this helps.

Not to be argumentative, but I don't agree that pegs are the "best" way. I think they still have pegs due to having a foot shifter. A floor board would get in the way. IMHO, I think some of the folks making the mod are for the "sport quad" appearance. And I don't really think it's a manueverability thing either. Because with 4-5 inch pegs your feet are basically in one place. With boards, you can move your feet around to get the best leverage on the machine for the given manuever. I've riden "pegged" atv's. I don't really think it's an improvement, but a preference. Which there is nothing wrong with. So again, don't take this as argumentative. These are just my opinions.

Paulrn...wouldn't the rubber spacers make you stand too high...thus raising your center of gravity? Not much but a bit...

The Foot Peg and Nerf Bar modification is a bit more involved than some in this forum have indicated. It's quite obvious that few have ridded with pegs and nerfs based on the comments here.

RULE 1 -- If you don't wear riding bike boots when you ride, don't use pegs & nerfs, you could get twisted up. RULE 2 -- Looking cool is not what this is about. If you can't figure that out, don't do it. RULE 3 -- The floorboards, mudflaps, fender braces and pipe guard go off also. If you have a rear brake pedal it needs to be modified. RULE 4 -- They are very comfortable, you will never miss floorboards, since the correct nerfs act as a heel rest.

If you want the instructions and materials list, e-mail me or post in our forum.
