ok i'll say it, read the manual lol. if you want the bushings to last i would grease the fitting if you ride in any water or dirt. i would stick the 0-40 or 2-50 oil or what ever the book calls for in the oil department. and change the front and rear diff oil as well as the tranny. i dont have one of the hawkeye but maybe one of the guys who has one can give you the fluid types it takes for sure.

Manual says use 0W-50 oil, but I found some Castrol Syntec 5W-50 that I run in mine and I live in the South too. I'd use the polaris AGL (purple) in the trnasmission and definitely use the Polaris Demand Drive Hub Fluid (thin and green) in the front gearcase.
I have used a Wix 51358 oil filter in th epast, but now I use a K&N oil filter because they are easier to put on and take off as they have a nut made onto the end.
I grease the grease fittings all the time. on the 06 hawkeyes they are located on the bottom side of the rear bearing carriers, and on the lower control arms on the rear suspension. There is also one on the yoke where the driveshaft to the front gearcase attaches to the shaft coming out of the transmission.

Hawkman,
here is a link to the Hawkeye owners namual, please scroll to pg 68 for grease fitting locations and the correct oil. When you change out the transmission oil make sure you have some tubing in order to refill as it is APTA to get to.

k, thanks guys! im gonna do it this weekend. so do i need to go by the polaris dealership and pick those oils up, or can i get a similar kind from an auto parts store or a general ATV store? and will i need the tube-nozzle grease gun, or will a hard nozzle be OK as far as getting to the grease fittings?

My advice is Dont Read the Manual, & only grease the fittings that are easy to get at, oh yeah, and use the cheapest oil and grease you can find.
Come on Hawkman, if you want it to last, learn what you need to do and how to do it, and what you need to use. ITS ALL IN THE MANUAL. Sorry for having to be so blunt, but we all learned this way.

You might as well bite the bullet and get all the fluids at the dealer. I got mine there except the oil and filter as I found the Syntec on sale and bought a bunch. If you have to go to the dealer anyway get all the fluids. Its just a couple of dollars more at the dealer anyway and you'd spend that driving somewhere else nowadays anyway. The oil filter was a BEAR to get off the first oil change on mine. They must have an 800 lb gorilla that tightened mine at the factory.

lol, i just dont wanna mess anything up and dont really know much about this kinda stuff. ill just go to the dealer and get all the fluids there. and i have looked in the manual and ill just keep studying it. and does the oil filter have to be changed whenever i change the oil?

Thats the attitude, and yes on the oil filter at each change. BEfore you get started. make sure you've got an oil filter wrench that will fit in the tight space. Itss pretty restricted and like tennesse said, its on tight.
