Default New riders w/ questions (two-ups)

Going to invest in an ATV for me and the wife and a couple 50cc for the 2 kids (6 & 8). I want the 700X2 for its all around versatility. Artic Cat also seems to have a nice 700cc EFI two-up. I really want an EFI for higher altitudes. When I started lookin into others just to be sure, I coudn't find any. When I called the local dealer, and its not like we have more than a few, who sell everything else but the above mentioned he said most manufacturers don't recommend multiple riders on an ATV. Is this something I should consider more seriously? Any input on the above two for 50% trail riding as a two-up and 50% hunting as a single rider? Thanks for any help!

Hey, TankHead, I have a 2006 500 efi X2. It is a great all around quad. I love riding it whether by myself or with a passenger. The nice thing about the X2 is that you don't have to take things off or put things on. The seat is right there, built into the bed. It only takes a few seconds to set it up or fold it back down. It rides better than a one up because of the longer wheelbase and also is better on hills because of the length. A passenger doesn't affect the ride that much because the springs are heavy duty on the X2 rear. The drawbacks are it's a little tougher to go through tight turns than with a one up, it scrapes a little more going over obstacles because of it's length, and takes up more room in the trailer. I would also recommend the 90cc kids quads over the 50cc just so there is a little room to grow.

I have a 07 Sportsman X2 500 EFI and I love it's pefect for what I need it for and I agree with Moose on the drawbacks but for me it's a small price to pay for what they are. There are only two quads that I know that are out there for two people the other guy and Polaris and they can be road two up in states like WV legal because they were designed for that purpose. I also do a lot of hunting out of mine as well and I love having the bed to throw all my gear in along with having room in the front compartment hope this helps

I have ridden double on a regular fourwheeler and it wasn't that bad. I can guarantee that it will be the cadillac of the fourwheeler world because its meant for 2 people to have fun on it!!!!!

I thought about a 2 up, but then my wife informed me that she wanted her own so
I got 2 SPSM 500 EFI's.

My point is that he most important person to ask you question to, would be your wife first .

Once u2 have talked about it, the people in this forum will be of great help!

ENJOY!

I agree with TDAWGCoug about the discussion. I did with my wife, and she came back wanting the X2. We first were looking at the 400 size, because she is a smaller person. But after she had ridden my 800 a bit up and down hills she really wanted the benefit of ADC and the larger frame the 500 class offered and she liked the additional length and stability a 2up offered.
Now that we have it, I have ridden on the back seat with her driving it. Mind you I am quite a bit "larger" in all fashions than she is. Even with me on the back, she says the bike still feels really stable to her.

We chose the X2 over the touring because of the immediate transition from 2up to a one up with a box on the back.
As far as comfort on the seat. I think the Touring has a little more comfortable seat than the X2 box model but that is my opinion.

The 500 has plenty of power for her and it is sufficient for 2 of us on it. Oh and she gets a lot better gas mileage than I do on my 800, but I didn't get the 800 for that.

i rescently bought the 500x2, its a very stable ride even on steep hills. the only draw back is tight turns and they sould be putting the tires that come with the standard sportsman on it, i dont like the tires that come with the x2 model and if i looked at things closer when buying it i would have tried to get the pxt tires worked into the deal. ive been putting 250 pound barrels on a hitch extension and it still rides fine, a second person sitting up on the seat will be fine

Wow, when I read your post, I thought it must have come straight out of my journal from last week! I just went through the exact same thing. I bought the Polaris 800 EFI Touring. Love it! The wife is very comfortable in her luxury seat. It's got all the power to do anything we could want. Our riding terrain is very mountainous and rocky. We've had no problems. I love the automatic 4WD system. And EFI is definitely the way to go for higher altitudes. We're at 9000 feet and have had no problems with the 800 EFI.

For the kids (ours are 12 and 13), we bought a Sportsman 90 and an Outlaw 90, and they love them. A reputable dealer will not sell you a 90cc for riders under 12, or he could lose his Polaris certification, so the 50cc is the "proper" way to go for your kids' ages. Only problem with the youth models is you can't get them with fuel injection. Have to go carburated. Make sure you challenge the dealer on whether they need to change out the jets. I had to take mine back to the dealer and make them do it. They just weren't running right (too rich? stalling a lot). We just got them back last night, so we haven't tested 'em much yet. They seem better, but still hard to get started and keep them idling without stalling until they've been warmed up with about 5 minutes of riding.

I'm a first-timer, so I can't tell you a lot about the Polaris capabilities compared to other quads, but with about 10 hours of experience, I have no complaints and I'm thoroughly impressed by the 800 Touring.

ok i am 14 and had my first gocart at 4 i would definitely say you NEED a 90 they make a screw for them that goes in the throttle and doesn't alow it to go fast and you can set that at anny speed you whant. and it has more ground clearance than a 50 and more power mainly when they get older you don'
t need to spent more money and time selling and buying or having them board another thing is that you don't need to buy a new 90 get used the 2 stroke engines are indestructable and the atv is 2 a great 90 is the eton 90 its a chinese brand but you can run it full throttle into a fence over and over again no problems haha we provved this right.
