New riders w/ questions (two-ups)
#11
Thanks for all input. I saw on the spec sheet how much longer the two-ups are (93" vs 87") and kinda figured they were designed and built for 2 riders. My wife wants no part of handling an ATV. She just wants to enjoy the view/ride. I knew a two-up would have limitations vs a single. Everything has its trade-offs. I needed real ppls input who ride and not just a salesman's who has his own interests in mind. There is no way I'm gonna be able to get my kids into 90cc's. Statutes (actual motor vehicle code) make it illegal to ride an ATV that is not recommended for his/her age. I thought I could get my boy, who's a big 8, the 90cc but not after reading the statute and seeing the salesperson's reaction to the idea.
Kasapearson, thanks for the tips for the kids ATV's! I'll be sure to inquire. We're sitting at 4000 ft right now and more likely than not our riding will go higher in altitude. Maybe 5 or 6,000 ft at the most. The highest of altitudes will be on the X2 for elk hunts.
Gonna fax in the credit app tomorrow. Hope to take advantage of their current promotion before it ends on the 31st. Should make it easier that I just refinanced my home and shredded $675 in credit card monthly payments. Hope everything works out and I don't need to go check out the other one.

Glad I could help. The manual for the youth models says the carburator needs to be re-jetted if you're doing a lot of riding above 6000 feet. If you think you'll stay below 6000 feet, then probably all they need to do is adjust the mixture. By the way, I love the 4-cycle engines and not having to pre-mix the oil and gas. So I can use the same gas can for the youths, the 800, the snowblower and the lawnmower (premium unleaded for all).
As for taking the X2 on your high-altitude elk hunts, no adjustments are necessary since it has electronic fuel injection. However, the dealer said he made some adjustments to the clutch because of my altitude. If you're just going up short-term, maybe no adjustments are necessary, but you might want to ask the dealer about it.
Hope it all works out!

When I started lookin into others just to be sure, I coudn't find any. When I called the local dealer, and its not like we have more than a few, who sell everything else but the above mentioned he said most manufacturers don't recommend multiple riders on an ATV. </end quote></div>
That's rich! So he doesn't sell them and claims "most manufactuters don't recommend multiple riders" All manufactures don't recommend multiple riders on a one up quad! That's why they started making the 2-up which is legal for 2 in every state. Many riders choose the 2-up quads even when they only ride one up because of the longer wheelbase and more stable ride when climbing. I ride the 2-up Touring which is the most comfortable for 2 riders, if I were looking for a hunting quad that could take two I would go with the X2. The 2-up quads are much more versatile JMHO

Thanks all! So how's the passenger seat on that X2? I was gonna say that I needed to know cause I might be finding myself sittin back there. But she's only 4'10". I don't see her being able to handle this monster properly. My 8 year old is not far behind her in height. Her being shorter might help w/ the fit on the rear seat of the X2. But there's always a chance of her goin out on her own down the road. When she read this thread there was more feedback of her gettin her own than I had anticipated. OOOPS! Oh well, 4'10", it's not like she's gonna fit in anything close to an X2. Maybe a 250cc? And she's not very athletic(understatement). I stopped tossing her the keys many many years ago! She never catches em. That seems to be a big consideration in choosing the right ATV, isn't it? And these kids have gotten way too big for these electric vehicles. The 800 looks awsome but I always take more gear than I need when I go hunting. That dump box should work great holding all my stuff on a 3/4 day elk/deer hunt. It should be great leaving the truck behind and covering more area.

for 4,10" a lil polaris sportsman 400 or honda 250 would be nice the hondas are small and always in 4/4 but most of them are manuel eather foot or electric on teh handlebar just up and down no clutch and real fun and easy to operate. they have them up at the race track and all of the kids hop on them even if they cant shift they leaned enogh to get by.

at almost 5'2 my wife is on a 500X2, she can standon the pegs and clear the seat b about 3 inches. She finds it a little hard to shift weight but she really likes the stability of her 500 X2.
a 400 is a nice bike and is a little smaller, so maybe abetter fit for someone 4'10
