Default Used Vs New

All -

I hadn't yet bought any used Polaris ATV products yet.
I wanted some opinions from those who have bought
used whether from the Dealer, Ebay, personal etc.

What is the reputation of Polaris on used products?
I am just thinking that when many buy used cars today
for affordability and relability many of the foreign domestic
car MFG. have a "better" or should I say "more popluar"
reputation like HONDA, TOYOTA etc. since their products
keep pretty good trade-in values, parts are cheap and
accessible etc. etc.

Thoughts and opinions?

as far as atv's (like snowmobiles) i really perfer to buy new as if i get one from a person who doesnt maintain it or worse drives like me it might be over half worn out lol. actually if you really pay attention to what your looking at and like an atv, you can see where some one would have abused it. imo.

I have never had any problems buying a used ATV.Just look them over e real good and ask questions.I got my Scrambler off Ebay 5yrs ago and have no regrets.I cant see paying the high price of anything new when a week after you buy it you loose 25% of what it is worth

I buy used ATV's and parts, saves a tremendous amount of money. I have bought a used Kingquad, Vinson, Arctic Cat, Grizzly and Rancher all with no problems and hudge savings!

Example, Vinson 500 with 55 hours for $2700

I will never buy a used ATV. Watch youtube videos for an evening and you'll understand why.

Would depend on the price for me. You can look at the wear on an atv in different places and get an good idea of how it was ridden. You can wash one and make it look nice, but paint wears off, and most people won't go to that extent to make one look better.

If you know the person that is selling it, that's a huge plus cause you know how well they did, or didn't, take care of it.

I did buy a basket case little 90. But I knew going in what it would take to rebuild it, and what it would be worth in a few years when it's outgrown. Figure I'll come out even, maybe a little ahead. Plus, I got something to tinker with for a bit.

Like anything else used you get crap and you get good--- For me I have found that by NOT being in a rush and having cash on hand makes for getting some GREAT deals. From reading all the past posts I know that you have a "clue" when it comes to mechanical things like I do, so for people like us who know what to look for is where it really pays to buy used because we know what to look for to tell if it been beat/abused. Brand(except for no-name) really don't come into play as much as condition and the desperation/need to sell, if its used and in well maintained shape I'd rather save the money over the cost of new myself and have had good luck so far.

I always buy used. If the ATV is in good condition I will buy it for 30-40% less (no GST tax also) no problem. Ask yourself if someone bought your beloved ATV,Car ,Sled, boat of of you would that person not also be happy with it also.

As soon as your new toy gets home from the show room floor to your drive way its concidered used and lost $1000 bucks.

The person who buys new takes the first and largest price hit of them all is what I notice. Even all the second hand toys I bought were all sold to a third party without complaints.

If you cant spot a machine that has been abused though than new might be the way to go for you. Myself give me a 5 miniute ride and I can tell if every thing works as it is intended to.

I have even been surprised and bought a worn out looking with high mileage 89 Big Bear 3504x4 while no exspecting much I still did not care because it was cheap and could not kill that ATV in 3 years and finally sold it to a friend who still enjoys it today.

If a machine can not be reliable after 100-200 hrs than I do not want it even new with zero hours on it as well.

Every ATV in everyones signature is used and potentially for sale at a much lower price than they were purchased new at.

If people do not like Used ATVs than they do not like what they are riding. After its first ride around the house its used.

I only buy used and usually make out very well. To get the best deal you have to be very flexible on timing and make/model. For instance, I new I eventually wanted a mid-sized 4x4 and I did not care if it was a Honda, Yamaha, Polaris, Kawi, Suzuki, or any of the other Japanese or American producers.

My experience with Polaris has been great. The first was a $500 '86 Trailboss that was so worn out the shocks were just springs and it sounded like a diesel. This was in the year 2000. Put about $100 into it and it never let me down except in water up to the belt, because the cover leaked like a sieve. I sold it about 2 years later for $600 when I bought a '01 Trailblazer for $1100 that someone won and almost never drove. Soon after I bought a '02 Trailboss for $900 that is in very good shape, but definately shows more miles than the Blazer. Meanwhile, I was still looking for a 4x4. Earlier this spring I bought a '94 Honda TRX300 4X4 with snow plow. It was $2000 (a lot for an old ATV but it was in extremely clean condition). I sold the Trailblazer for $1500 on Craigslist (it was gone in 3 hours).

I am pretty happy with the two that I have now (the easy riding Polaris for my wife or guests and the little Honda Tank) and will probably hold onto them for a while, but I am always on the lookout. Almost picked up a 2000 Kawi Prarie 300 for $2000 last week that a guy was just rolling out with for sale sign. I passed and when I drove by 4 hours later it was gone. You have to be quick and at the right time/place.

So, to wrap up all three of my used Polaris' have been excellent (albeit they are the low end simple models).

That s how it is I do not even care about the year. I bought a 2000 450 Honda Foreman ES 4x4 with only 800 miles in 2006 from this nice old guy. I put another 800 miles on it in just one year.

There are so many people out there that have no time to ride, those are the ones I look for.
