starter bendix

Default starter bendix

i have a 98 500 scrambler 4x4, when i try useing the electric start you can hear it spin inside but does not turn over. i took the recoil cover off removed the bendix and starter spins fine, the bendix is in good shape,i can turn it with my hands, but wont pop in when in the bike. i need help, cuz my recoil is busted

Default starter bendix

check the bushings that the bendix sits in on of them may be bad. and make sure the flywheel and everything else is torqued properly. when mine did the same thing I just tighten the recoil housing a little more and it started working. I dont know if was coincidence or not though.

Mine just spun, did not spin out and engage when I first got my 2000 Sportsman, I removed it and soaked it in oil over-night and then let it dry out a bit and reinstalled it and it has worked great ever since.
