Trailblazer pouring gas out the carb NEED HELP!
#1
Sorry for the long post, but please read:
Im workin on a 2001 trailblazer 250. If some of you recall, I posted a while back about the exhaust, airbox, and crankcase being completely filled with gas. Well, I drained it all out, and I can get it to start, but if you leave the gas on, it just pous out the carb. I took off the carb, cleaned the needle and seat, replaced the floats, and no matter what I set the floats at, it still doesnt shut off the gas. If I get it to run, I guess since the engine is using gas, it doesnt flood out, but it wont idle. Also, I know 2 strokes naturally smoke, but when its running, especially when its cold, it smokes so much you cant even see whats behind you. Can you run a compression test to see if the top end is in need of a rebuild? If so, whats the correct psi? One final thing, if Im cranking the engine, the gas doesnt just pour out, it also sprays out considerably. Is there supposed to be air pushing out of the carb? Just wondering. Thanks very much!

You say that you cleaned the N&S but I would say repalce it. The tip probly is not sealing correctly and not shutting the fuel off. I would replace the needle and seat and start there. Also on those motors you want a min. of 125 lbs of compression. It will run with alittle less but for service limits we like to see them at a min. of 125. Hope that helps out.

I agree with Triplee,,, you need to replace the needle valve. That is,,, unless you got a bad new float. To check it,,, just stick it in some water for a while and see if it floats or sinks. Obviously, if it sinks it's bad, if it floats,,, it's good,,, hence the name,,, LOL.

I figured it out, I had the clear vent hoses all hooked together, so it would siphon the gas out of the bowl and pour it down the venturi. Runs perfect now, and compression was in an acceptable range. Thanks for all who contributed.
