if you havent picked it up yet why not just borrow the trailer if you can, you can try and squeeze it in the bed when you get home. Would suck to make a 2 hour drive and find out that it didnt fit. just a thought. i honestly think it would fit but with the price of gas why risk it.

I ended up renting a trailer and picking it up last week. I didn't really want to risk it not fitting and they only wanted 30 dollars for the trailer rental fee.
I have not tried puting it in the back of the truck as I have a trail right next to my house and just drive it out to the trail.
I believe that the manual said no more then 400 pounds on the tail gate but it is removed easily. Just a PITA to keep taking it on or off. I would like to eventually buy a good trailer to haul it out to the black hills and go riding but don't have the 1000 to 1500 to get a good one right now. Espiaclly when I'm not going to use it more then maybe twice a year. I would perfer to just put it in the back those very few times I would be using it away from the house.
I've been meaning to try and get a buddies ramp and see if it will actually fit or not but I haven't got around to doing that yet and most likely not have time in the forseeable future.

i wouldnt put it with the back wheels sitting on the tail gate unless its supported some how. maybe gets some heavey chanell iron and run it front to back on both sides to sit the atv on. that should take some of the weight off the tailgate itself and if the gate cables break the channels will still be there supporting the atv

I have an '06 tundra. In '06 they had a 6' bed and I fit my '07 800 in just fine with the tailgate off it gets a little tight but works...
If you need to save some space back the machine in. Saves me almost 6". This is really in my mind as I am truck shopping now. I like the GMC but the bed is less than on my Tundra. Might just have to pony up the cash for a trailer, but will not like it one bit.

I would look an craigslist for a trailer. It seems like there are a bunch on there pretty cheap. I hauled my quad around in my truck (04 Dodge 3/4 ton) and it was just a pain to get in and out. If you find a trailer that needs a little work dont be afraid to get it. There is not too much to them and the modifications you can make are endless, at least in Texas as long as it has lights and a license plate you can pretty much do what you want. I have all sorts of bizarre crap welded onto mine. I didnt think I would be but I am now pro-trailer. I guess anyone who would say a Toyota is not a "real" truck must like changing and cleaning up oil, wasting gas and throwing away money. I did when I was a kid but you kind of grow out of that. I still own a Dodge but I have respect for the Toyota.

You can get a GMC with an 8' bed that's actually 8'+1.6, on a regular cab or an extended cab. That's 2 feet longer than your Tundra. If you want a crew cab then you only get a 69.3" box on the GMC, but the new Tundra is even shorter at 66.7".
