2007 SP500EFI Idle Adjustment??
#1
Folks,
My SP500EFI idles too fast at 1180rpm or so.
As a result it creeps forward or back when engagd in gear/reverse.
Also as a result, the shifting of gears is stiff. If the engine is shutoff, the shifting is much smoother, so the fast idle is definitely contributing.
The dealer tells me that only he can adjust the idle with his "Polaris Digital Wrench" software, and I can't buy the software. For a tech savy guy like myself, who has many automotive software tools, and who wants to do this sort of thing himself, the answer from the dealer s_cks.
My question is: have any of you found access to Digital Wrench, is there another software package that will talk to the SP, is there a way that I can lower the idle?

Hmm, I'm sorry I don't have a good answer for you, but to be honest 1180 doesn't seem that high. Recommended is 1150+- I thought? Unless it is different for your model. I'm sure someone else will chime in soon.

1180 rpm sounds about right. My '08 is about 1160 and so was my '06. I believe you can buy Digital Wrench software that will work for you, for $180. http://www.polaris.spx.com/detail.aspx?cid=23&tid=834

hate to tell ya but thats not idling too fast. stock should be 1150 rpm +-. if its creping then you have a belt or a primary clutch issue. maybe the ebs bushing or the fiber washers are bad.

There is a way to adjust it without the Digital Wrench, I know there is a procedure for the 800 but there may be some differences for a 500. The procedure involves resetting the TPS voltage, that is where the digital wrench comes in, but this can be done with a multi-meter. But like Stendori and others have said, 1180 isn't too high. My 800 idles at 1250 with no creep or hard shifting.

I know the 500's and 800's are different animals but both of my 500's idle at 1150 and slightly higher. Both bikes shift well with no creeping in gear, in fact sometimes I think they should idle just a hair faster.

An EFI would be fairly new so it shouldn't have worn out clutches yet unless you have a ton of miles. I'd check for belt alignment. Lot of seperated motor mounts.

Try playing with the in-line throttle cable adjustment screw just down from the ETC and see if that helps anything. Sometimes it's easy to overlook the very simple fixes.</end quote></div>
Good idea. There has to be some slack in the cable, 1/16" - 1/8". If the cable is tight...
