Except that his idle speed is normal.</end quote></div>
Does anyone know what the normal range is from low to high rpm? 1150 + or - what? His is 20-30 rpm higher than mine so I thought it could have just a bit of tension on the throttle cable.
That still has <u>nothing</u> to do with whatever the real problem is. Something in the PVT I guess.

Guys,
A lot of you chimed in on this one, and I appreciate all of the answers. I think you are on the right track with the idle being reasonable and there possibly being a clutching or belt alignment problem.
When idling in neutral, there is a light "sqeaking" that I believe to be the belt. When shifted into any gear the "squeaking" quiets down UNTIL throttle is applied. For the first few moments as the machine is going from zero to moving, there is a (light??) belt squealing. At speed it either goes away or you can't here it. Similarly, when the machine is dropping from moving to stopped, you hear the squeal again for a bit. I assumed this would go away as the belt wore in, but not so.
From what I am hearing from you, belt alignment may be the issue? Do you guys buy the polaris tool to align the driven clutch to the drive clutch, or do you simply use a straight edge and a tape measure? Do you know what the offset should be. Any other pointers in the clutch/belt area would be appreciated!
BTW - The machine is quite new with only about 700 easy miles (all flat ground here!)
Thanks a lot for the help,
Deej

have you let it sit and idle while it is gear not including park or nuetral? if it idles in gear, the ebs clutch spacer is always rubbing on clutch face causing spacer to wear out prematurely. this is one cause of the creeping or difficulty shifting.

As posted earlier check front motor mount..Just changed another one today on a 2007 Sportsman 500 EFI.This will definatly cause clutch creep and hard shifting..NAPA HAS A REPLACEMENT.... PART # 602-1069...
