Hello, i am look at getting a new polaris Sportsman 500 for my son, and i was wondering if it was to big or has to much power for him. He is 5 foot 6 inches and pretty muscular and is a great ATV rider, excellent rider. Also, how is the turning and handling. Thanks...

no, i dont think it has too much power
i'v been riding since i was 7 and now im 14 and have a sportsman 700, so its pretty much based on his comfort imo
there was a big debate about it being ok for a 12 year old a while ago, you may want to check that out
as far as turnig and handling my 700 is great imo

If he is as good as you say he is, I don't see him having a problem with pretty much any quad. The Sportsman is heavier than a sports quad and most other utilities due to a very strong frame. You do use some upper body strength to steer but I don't find it heavy or light. Right about where it should be in my mind. Ride is fantastic. Very comfortable. I have a ruptured disc in my back and still enjoy riding the PoPo.

thanks, now based on your help i am probibly going to get him a sportsman 500. I should probibly get the fuel injection type but it is 1000 more dollars thani wanted to spend. Do you know of any great place to buy brand new ATV's? I am looking ot either get him a sportsman 500 or a suzuki 450. Which won would you choose.

I can't really vouch for the Suzuki. The Sportsman is probably the all around best quad in my book. Good ground clearance, great AWD system, most comfortable ride out there, and great on board storage. I have a ton of stuff that I keep in the front box of my X2 that is identical to the front end of the regular Sportsman. No other quad has the storage that a Sportsman has.

My dealer in Ok has the EFI 500 at 5899.00 OTD and 5299.00 for Carb 500 HO.

The sportsman is a larger class machine and its a little on the heavy side, but if your son is a good rider I am sure he would be fine, they are good machines and have lots of nice features, and I am sure the 500 engine is fine for him, it has decent amout of power and will cruises real well in the 30-40 mph range, the last 500 I owned topped out in the mid 50s if I remember right.
