Sprocket change...

hey guys,

as wondering if i might go up one tooth on my front sprocket, have heard from some that that will give my boss a top speed like the Blazer, but will it accelerate painfully slow? if it does, screw that, i like it how it is, but if i can get more with that change, may be worth it.

You shouldn't notice that much of a take off change because of your auto-trans.

the trail boss is too tall geared now let alone going up a tooth on the front sprocket. If you do this you will loose speed and be a lot doggier on the take off. The boss has an 11 tooth on front and a 42 on rear, you need to go a little bigger on rear sprocket which will help take off as well as let the engine rev a little higher.


Unless you have gotten an extra 10 horse or so do not gear it any higher unless one of your friends has a 500 and has a rope tied on your front.

I had a 400 Xpress that had taller gearing installed. Putting in a green primary spring (white may be better for a 4 cycle) gave it the same acceleration it always had, and gained in top speed. Keep in mine you lose some low-speed control when you do this as the enging revs higher before the clutch engages, making engagement more abrupt.
However, I don't know how it would work in a 325. The 400 has enough power to pull the higher gearing, I don't know if the 325 would or not.

If i do that, will it be slower on top speed?

You really need to do something to the 325 to get it to go faster first, before you change gearing. Gearing will not help a stock atv go faster, it might even hurt. Check with RcR, he's got some speed part for those 325's that really perk them up.
