I just put an OEM polaris head gasket in my 400 scrambler because it was chugging coolant out the bottle.

Now it's puffing white smoke out the exhaust.

There's no water in the counterbalance. What did I do wrong and where do I go from here? I'm out of ideas.

New piston,rings? break-in ? more info needed. Little smoking normal,not a lot, sound like coolant leaking into head gasket, rings

 

Sorry... about 20 hours on rebuild done in April. Good compression. No visible signs of cracks anywhere. Engine is bone stock except for wiseco piston.

Runs like new, but misting a bit of white smoke. Was not burning coolant prior to gasket, just pressurizing cooling system.

Old head gasket was toast, guy who built the engine used a cheap gasket. I put a Polaris gasket in.

It runs like new and idles perfect. I'm inclined to put it back together and run it to see if it stops, but that's a lot of work for what will probably be nothing.

Should I send the head to Rick? I've tried everything I know but I feel like I'm pissing in the wind.

why did the old head gasket go bad? overheated? warped head? how is the cyclinder base gasket?

 

Unsure of the base gasket... i didn't think it flowed coolant there so I never pulled it apart that far.

The old gasket went suddenly, not overheated or anything but when I removed it, all the rubber sealer stuff was peeled or peeling. Honestly I don't know why it went.
