Winch Cable
#1
Can anyone tell me the best way to cut winch cable? I have a section of cable that got hung up in my winch and is frayed badly. I would like to cut this portion off but am worried about the good portion fraying after I cut it. Should I tape it?
Thanks

I've always bound it before I cut it
Start an inch or so one side of where you plan to cut and then wrap tightly with Electrical tape.
You can go across the point you intend to cut then cut through tape and all.
Mostly it depends on how you plan to cut the cable.

Or you can buy a Amsteel blue rope. Then you dont have to deal with this problem any more. http://www.amsteelblue.com/

Tape and bolt cutters should do the trick. I'd just with the rope do a search and you'll see the topic in pretty good detail. I'm waiting for mine to fray so I can replace it with the rope!

Thanks for the input on the winch cable. Seems easy enough to fix. I will cut off the bad part for now. I will have to invest in that amsteel blue rope when the rest of the cable gets rough.
Thanks.
Thanks.
