Default black wire on CDI help

If I have the black wire from my CDI plugged in my 96 sportsman 500 has a hard time starting and doesnt run correct?? If i unplug it it starts fine and runs great. Does this mean its got a short somewhere?? Is it possible its plugged into the wrong spot??

Is it possible someone could tell me where it needs to be plugged in so I can confirm its not in the wrong plug as I received the ATV and the wire was already unplugged??

thanks

It sounds like maybe the reverse limiter is unplugged rather than the cdi. How many wires are coming off the box that is unplugged?

When it's unplugged, do you have to use the reverse over ride button?

Thinking 94harley is right and it's the overide.

Black wire coming DIRECTLY from cdi is kill wire! If runs only with wire disconnected, either left control switch or cdi bad. For me its usually cdi,but dont overlook short in wiring from switch.

yep just the black wire. I pushed the over ride button and it seemed to run better for a few seconds then went back to not running well with the black wire plugged in. I dont think its the over ride ??

I wrote that wrong. What are the colors of the other wires(that are plugged in still) on the box that has the black wire unplugged?
What I' was lookig for is to make sure you are on the cdi and not the limiter box. I believe the limiter has a white, yellow, green and black wire. The cdi has a 3 pin and a two pin connector, a brown wire and I can't remmeber the rest.
