Hello all,

Well I have joing the ATV world, and picked up a steal last night....

I used to be a road racer and street bike guy, but after the last couple years of no racing and barely riding my street bikes, I have sold them all off and joined the ATV world.

I got real lucky, at least I think so. I have been shopping around the past couple of months, and narrowed down my search to (4) models.

First and foremost, the Polaris Sportsman 500 was at the top, but out of my price range (at least I thought so)!!

Then, I had my eyes on any of the following, either a Honda 420, Grizzly 450, or a King Quad 450...

About 4 days ago, I made an offer on a King Quad, and the seller wouldn't take it (boy, am I glad he didn't)...

Anyways, yesterday morning, just like every day the past month or so, I got up early, turned on the computer and did some searchingl.

WOW, the local craigslist here in Pittsburgh had a 08 Sportsman, HO, EFI, and in Mossy Oak camo ad posted late in the night, I had to be the first to see it!!

I thought there was a catch though, it had only 11 miles and 4 hours on it!!

I called the guy as soon as I got to work. Yes, it was available, he had won it at a Gun Bash and didn't want it, the short mileage was from riding around his yard.

It was and looked brand spanking new, even had the smell!!

He took my offer, we went to the notary, and home I went!!!

So, I start my adventure in the ATV world. Having a camp in property up in Tionesta PA, I never had an ATV, and now I finally do....

So any advice, info, warnings, anything would be appriciated!!

Thanks

JJ in Pittsburgh!!!

Hey JJ, welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of helpful folks here and the rest of us who will try but not be quite as good... It's a great forum with a good bunch that enjoys the great Polaris quads.

WARNING! ATV'ING IS EXREMELY ADDICTING!!! You may find yourself buying more atv's very soon and have a list of them under your signature like many of the members here on the forum do. Good choice and welcome to the forum! Oh, almost forgot, as with street biking (me being a former street biker, too) keep the rubber side down!

Welcome to the forum, the sport, and the Polaris brotherhood, JJ. Your new toy is IMO as nearly perfect a utility ATV as ever made. If you don't know where to ride it, check the "where to ride" section. I understand there are several ex-coalmine trails to ride in PA.

Your first mistake was buying a Polaris.

Your second mistake was finding this forum.

Thanks to all.....

Yeah, my wife and I enjoy going out on our father in laws quad, when we get a chance, so iamhoping this turns into fun for the whole family (2 kids 3 and 2 years old), the kids, hopefully, will enjoy this once they are old enough too!!

as far as riding goes, I know that the Allegheny National Forest and the PA Game Commission now has riding trails and areas put aside for this, but are regulated depending on the time of year and game is season...

They now, here in PA, require that, in order to ride on the public trails, that you be insured, registered, and have a plate, all of which I have done.

One of my good friends also has has over 400 acres in St. Marys PA, plus there are a handful of local spots, so I am hoping that there shouldn't be a shortage in places to ride.

I do have a first question, of which I am going to post seperately....
