Default Plastic Melting On 08 400HO

Problem is on the left side of the airbox. Heat sheild looks ok and there is about
1 1/2" - 2" clearance between the pipes. Stock machine. Hottest temp we've had is about 85 degrees when I was riding. Going to see if the dealer will double up on the sheilding.

Pictures in my Photobucket.

It looks like that part of the frame is getting hot. That's a new one on me. I don't think "stock machine" when I look at the tracks. I wonder if that's working the engine hard enough to cause eccessive heat. Just a wild guess. Keep us posted.

Tracks would not be a factor as I took them off in March. The strange part is the the pipe is only about 1/2" from the side panel - no damge. However, 2" above the pipe is where melting occurred. Dealer is contacting Polaris for advise. When they get the plastic off, we'll be able to see if there is an exhaust leak aiming upwards to the melted area.

It's on the left side!!!! There is no pipe there. Just the exhaust duct for the belt cover. That is strange. Am I missing something???

that air box set-up is different than the hawkeye... no idear bud... does the exhaust pipe contact the frame?? that could conduct the heat into the frame causing a more direct transfer of heat.. just a thought

Just came in from looking at it again and for the life of me, can't see how it could do this. Damage where it is almost impossible to happen and nothing where there is only 1/2" clearance and should have happened if it was hot.. Wonder if it came this way from factory and I just noticed it? Can't be sure.
