I got another question for yall. Is the winch on my unit a 2500 or 3000. It is the factory one that comes on the deluxe model. I have never put any thought into it, asked or even looked at it to see. It works and works really good all except for the frayed cable that is cutting my hands all up. thanks again for all your replies, it has been a great help</end quote></div>
Your hand shouldn't even be on the cable.

I only have my hand on it when pulling it out and holding tension to pull it in when not winching. I belive in safety no doubt and do all i can to winch safely for sure. Thats a one of the big reasons i want to switch to synthetic because if it were to break there is no whip.

I bought the syn rope kit from CSE off ebay and have a question on how you attach the rope to the spool? The rope end has a small eyelet pressed on but it won't fit through the hole in the spool, do you cut that off and just tie it through the spool with a knot?

My old cable had a small puck wrapped into the end of it which was pulled back into the spool. I reused the puck and installed it the same way as the cable. thread the rope through the hole, wrap the end around that puck and tuck it back into the hole while pulling it tight. It won't come out and you shouldn't be winching that far down to the end anyway.
This Link has a great diagram of what I described.

I'll take a look at the puck that I took off the cable, it looked kind of small and I was thinking that the rope might pull right through the slot and the puck wouldn't hold it, but if it's worked for others I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Got the new line Saturday as a birthday present and coldn't have been more excited. Went out in the garage last nite at around 11:30 and enjoyed a few cold Miller Lites and was just going to piddle and get ready for the install. I ended up coming in at 1 am with the install done. The kit i ordered came from CSE Offroad and i highly recomend them to all of you considering this upgrade. The kit came with the rope, new hawse fairlead, winchsaver and a new hook all for $81.00 to my door. I looked all over the net and this is by far the best deal i found and it turns out the service was great too.

Crucial, or anyone else, what's the trick to get the rope through the hole in the winch drum? I've threaded it through the hole but then trying to get it back through again so I can catch the puck is such a tight fit that I've been unsuccessful thus far. Any ideas?
