theres no way a 700 r could weigh less than a 525

the 525 weighs the same as a 300ex

And even closer if you look at an 07-08 Outlaw IRS which are 395.

the 700xx looks to be a very good trail machine
while the 700r is going to be superior on the track
But the 525 IRS is by far the best all round quad of the three and does everything well!

It is up to you what is your favorite type of riding and what is the most important to you...and will you miss the awd you have with the Scrambler?

Out of the 700r and 525 IRS, the 525 IRS would be a lot better on the trails, not because it's 5 pounds lighter, but because the suspension and ground clearance are <u>a lot</u> better. The list price of the '09s has the 525 IRS at $100 more than the 700r, but IRS is worth $300 more than a SRA. Polaris quads NEVER sell for list price in my experience. I paid $1,300 under list for my new toy. I don't know how much Yamaha will knock off theirs, but the last time I checked Polaris and Yamaha at the same dealer, the Yamaha was about $1,000 more than a similar Polaris model. Maybe you can find a better deal than that on a Yammy. I don't know.

But for me the ultimate trail machine is one with a winch, a trailer hitch, plenty of storage for my tools and snacks, and a rack big enough to at least carry a cooler and gas can. And it has to be 4x4 so I can ride it in the snow. When I get off the trail I can go home and plow with it.

I am having this same debate with myself. I have a Brute 750 I like the power and it will go in pretty deep snow but it is heavy and when I ride it too fast becomes a real handful. I have been debating Polaris 525 IRS, Honda TRX700xx, and Raptor 700. I also keep looking at the Renegade 800x. The renegade is a lot of money and I am not sure it handles that much better than the brute especially because it is heavier than the brute. I wish the Polaris 525 was EFI that would seal the deal for me. I expect that Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha will all come out with either the IRS sport quad or sportier 4x4s in the next year or two. Wish they would release them now. My luck I will buy something new now and they will come out with something better right afterwards. I think this going to become a big growth area in the sport.

Ok so I will eat my words on the weight issue but the same goes with you have you ever ridden a 700r? Ya I saw you rode with some buddies but try riding both machines in an enviorment where the terrain varies and the tell me which one you had more fun on! The 525 is a great machine, but in the conditions I ride in the 700r is a machine that wants to be pushed faster and harder than any other machine that I have ever rode and yes that does in include the Outlaw 525irs!

After having IRS for a few years I got used to going through ruts, straddling rocks and stumps, and not swerving or slowing down. Then I got a Trailblazer, had to change how I rode, and <u>still</u> hit stuff that I thought I wouldn't and got stuck in ruts that weren't very bad. I traded it in the next year. On some of the trails I ride, if you don't have IRS you beat the crap out of your swingarm and get high-centered in ruts and mud. Anyone who rides trails like that needs IRS but not 4x4.

Dan you cant beat a 500 Scrambler for a trail machine.Not hi tech but very good at every thing.But it needs to be a 01-up
