Default k&n filter question

Curious on this: I upgraded my stock air filter to a k&n filter Am I supposed to keep the oem pre-filter around the k&n or just the k&n filter itself mounted in the airbox??? The k&n filter did'nt come with it's own pre-filter so I'm not sure if it needs any. Thanks

Just the filter itself - the K&N doesn't have a pre-filter. Hold onto the OEM in case you need service work done on your quad (possible warranty issue). Put the OEM back on before you take it to the dealership. So I've heard.

Default k&n filter question

if you run the k&n filter w/out a prefilter you might just engine trouble down the line w/ all the dust that will get by the k&n. just my .02

Default k&n filter question

If you ride in silt or dusty conditions run DO NOT run a K&N without the pre-filter.... the K&N by nature does not filter the smallest particles..... If you ride mostly sand or wetlands you might not have any problems but better safe then sorry.....

Default k&n filter question

I run a K&N with the stock pre-filter. As said, K&N don't filter all that good and running the pre-filter will not affect the performance gain of the K&N. Cheap insurance.

Default k&n filter question

K&N is better breathing, better Breathing means more air, more air, means more flow, this means less dust filtering, no way around it, you do not get something for nothing.

On a Utility ATV I just stick to the more air/dirt restrictive stock paper filter.
