broken drive belt

Default broken drive belt

I let my friend ride my 2006 sportsman 800 and he hit a ditch he didnt see as he was going across a field at about 20 mph. It broke the a arm and half shaft on the left front it also pushed the fan against the front diff. (I dont think it supposed to be like that). I got it back tonight and the fan is in the same place and when it comes on it is hitting something as it turns. I only made it about 3 miles before my drive belt broke. It has 300 miles and 50 hours on it. Is that normal to break a drive belt or is this from the wreck.

A lot depends on HOW it was driven BEFORE he hit the ditch! Good luck

I am not sure how it was ridden because I bought it 4 days before he ditched it.

that sucks,
I hate lending my bikes out, so I never do!
Only to my most experienced friends who have there own bikes and help me
work on mine.

10/4 kukerdan, my brother-in-law likes to kick in the awd switch while its spinning around in the winter,blowing hubs+hilliards.he's had quads alot longer than me.he even worked at polaris for alittle while.he just can't figure out the awd part...ever. but never again.

You should check the clutch alignment. Misaligned clutches will tear up a belt pretty quick. Sounds like it was hit pretty hard, and could have knocked the motor and there for the primary out of place.

[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif[/img] I would knock your so-called friends jaw out of alignment! Although it would be a 1 in a million chance, you could have just gotten a bad belt. If it breaks in a certain way, I think it may be covered by polaris. I'd ask old polaris tech first though. If it is covered that is 50-60 bucks you won't have to spend on what already sounds like an expensive F-UP. Good luck.

In 10+ years of owning Po have never broken a belt.

They checked everything at the dealership and said it measured strait. I hope nothing is bent that bad but I dont know.

If the it has been checked then put a belt on it and see what happens. I would check it ofte to see how it is wearing. If it wears excessively or breaks then the clutch are def. misaligned.
