1995 Scrambler Engine Bearings, Help Please
I have a 1995 Scrambler that I bought needing a flywheel and stator. Naturally, after replacing that, I realized why it took out the stator, the crank bearings are shot! ( I'm learning !!!!).
I've been a car mechanic about 35 years but never into an atv before! I can't find a manual online for teh 95 model. Does anybody have a manual they don't need to sell me?
Is this a major job, or pretty much self explanatory?
Remove engine,
split cases,
replace bearings,
reassemble??????
Any tips or pointers before I tear it apart?
Any performance tips to do while I'm in these?
Do I have to get the crank seperated into two to replace these bearings?
It's wobbling, so I'm assuming there are two? THe manual lists three!! Is there a third?
Thanks,
Really need some pointers.
Mike

Crank bearings not all that is needed,IF going that far: rod, bearing, spacers need to be replaced and crank trued! plus water pump bearing and seals Plus if needing to pull counter balancer, must have puller. LOT OF PARTS in 400 engines that have to be replaced. Yes there are 3 crank bearings,2 on clutch side, one on stator side, plus several seals that have to be replaced. If you can do the work, may be able to do it at reasonable cost,BUT dealer repair is costly. Just a lot of work and cost may well excede value of machine, must decide if worth it for a 14 year old machine.IF planning on keeping, then cost may be justified. Good luck

If you work on cars this will be a pleasant break . The machine pretty well comes apart like it looks like it should but for the left hand threaaded slotted nut behind the flywheel .
I have ALL the parts in stock to successfully put the machine back in service plus I can be reached by phone if you have a tech question .
I must admit I do enjoy working with home builders like yourself , $500 - $700 will cure the problems .
The value of these machines as they age is more condition over date of manufacture , new ones deprecciatte so quickly if you repair this one for $700 and drive it a year and push it off in the weeds you are still farther ahead moneywise than letting a new one depreciatte . (A $4000 quad looses about $1000 in value the first year) .
Lets fix it . :-)

PS There are 4 crank bearings - one rides in the outer cover behind the stator. It rides in oil and fails mainly because of water in the balancer oil .
