Default Engine overheat light

I have a 2004 Polaris 400 sportsman and when I turn the key on... it goes
through the cycle and then the HOT light starts flashing and the speedo
needle flashes. It hasn't been running at all. I have checked the thermister
for the correct ohm's reading and have gone so far as to exchange it with
our other 400 and it still does it. When I unpluged the thermister from the wire
connecter the fan came on... like it is supposed to. Any help would be
appreciated.

PS: The thermister is the temperature sender; they call it a thermister in
the service manual. Thanks Daltongang

I had a speedo go bad and it acted all crazy like that. can't remember if it did that specifically, but it acted all crazy. Is your needle jumping and stuff like that?

if your speedo needle doesn't work at all you may not have AWD. Check it before you go into a gnarly hole.

the speedo work--everything work the fan come on when it warms up--I have checked the wire connections and they are good, no corrosion--the hot light flashes all the time and the speedo needle flashes red- I filled it with coolant and run it tonight and that is what i found. any other suggestions open for anything---i am just glad it isn't my primary machine--it is the one i have for my kids to ride when they come to visit.
