2003 sp500 ho front wheel not pulling
#1
I need help! I noticed the other day while riding that my front right wheel has stopped pulling when in 4wd. I don't believe the axle is broken. What should I start checking first?
#2
First thing I would do is to check that the 2 small wires going to strut coil are connected and have power. If this is ok can be internal problem with armature plate or hilliard assy in hub.

Ok, I removed the wheel and hub. I can put it in 4wd and stick a nut to the strut, take it out of 4wd & the nut falls off. This means the strut is o.k. right?

yes sounds like coil assy ok,but DOES THE ARMATURE PLATE stick even when awd off? Or is it easy to pull away? If feels like is magnetized and has excessive wear rings on back of plate,REPLACE. I do it any way on older machines when going into hubs.

Is the ARMATURE PLATE the washer w/ three tabs on it? If it is then mine is bad, it has wear rings on the back side of it and it is bent a little. I don't think it sticks to the ARMATURE . I will pick one up tuesday and reassemble the hub. What is the torque for the axle nut?

From the service manual:
1) Torque spindle nut to 160-170 inch pounds while rotating the hub.
2) Back off 1/2 turn
3) Rotate axle several revolutions by raising the rear of the machine and rotating the rear wheels with the machine in gear.
4) Re-torque hub nut to 108-144 inch lbs
