removing rear axel
#1
So I found out that I had a torn outer cv boot, and started working on fixing it. I am to the part of removing the axel and am having problems with it. It just won't come out of the gear case. Any suggestions on how to remove the axel?

I leave the axle in & remove the clamps from the outer boot and disassemble the outer part of the axle, this way you can slide the old boot off the the new boot on w/ the axle in. It also gives you a chance to clean and inspect all of the axle componets and install fresh grease in both ends. Have fun w/ the clamps!

Thats a good question. I need to know that too. I watched a video on youtube where the guy just pried it out. Seemed to pop out rather easily. It was the front shaft , but i assume they are the same as the back.

If you look at this picture of the shaft you can pretty much tell that it just pulls out.

I wish mine would just pull out, but it won't. I understand that the longer they've been in there the harder they are to get out. Mines been in there for 4 years as it's an 04.

The drive shaft pulls in and out a little on the inner (next to gearcase) cv joint doesnt it? Use that space to give it the hammer effect and just jerk the drive shaft out. Thats what i did with my front drive shaft today. It took two pulls and it was out. Just pulling on it is not the same as the sudden impact. Youll be surprised how easily it comes out. Quick fast pulls. Let me know how you made out.

The collar that the shaft goes into is tapered around the inside edge which helps to compress the detent ring on its way in. The most that would have to be done is to use a screwdriver to compress the ring a little more . Then just push it in.
