OK, I can't find my old post about the compression on this thing but I think there are other probs anyway.........

Question 1 - Do primary clutch springs break on these things-I mean is it common on these quads? My primary have very little pressure. When not running I can push the half in very easy but I can see the light blue spring and it looks OK but maybe it is broke? When it is at idle, the primary is engaged a little and the secondary is spinning. So when I put it in gear it clunks bad. I don't have a clutch puller so I didn't tear into it yet. I took the secondary apart - holy cow it was bad. alot of crud in it. I turned the buttons around as the one side was worn and they looked symmetrical. Now the secondary looks to work freely. Should the primary clutch be this easy to move? My snowmobiles aren't ?

And then yes, the compression - I need opinions that 100 PSI is OK or needs rebuilt ? The top of the piston looks good and the cylinder walls look good.

Any good input would be great. Thank you much!

Springs can break but I have never had one do it.tThe stock spring isnt very stiff.Take the center bolt out and the 6 small ones and check the spring you dont need a puller.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I took it to the dealership so they could use their puller and take the clutch off. The guy there said the clutch seems right (that soft). I told him how it rubs bad on the belt and he said cause it has grooves in the clutch. I didn't think they were that bad plus if it grooved out I would think it would have more room - not less where it would spin the secondary all the time.

I will take the 6 bolts off anyway and check the spring just to make sure.

A new belt helped but I ordered a set of rings for it. Once I tear into it I will see if I really need the piston too.

Does someone make a decent clutch kit for these quads????

Dont waist your time and money if you are going to do a top end do it RIGHT.Pull the cylinder and piston.Take it to a good shop, have it gauged and micced.Have the shop doing the boring to get the piston and set it up to the correct specs.

OK, thanks for the opinion. Once I tear into it I will see what's going on. Sounds like these quads have this happen often? Were they not too good when they came out?

Yeah the 6 bolts along with the clutch bolt is nice - I checked the spring and it is OK. I still can't believe the set up though - that it rides on the belt and spins the secondary when barely idling. Spring may be weak too. Thanks for the info!

Hmm, motor probs on any 2 stroke? That's a bummer to hear. I am not used to that with my snowmobiles. It's not the case with my Ski-Doo's. I have many miles on them and never touched the motors. Must not be the same case with quads? I know this thing has not run much in its 5 years of life. I wonder how many hours (or miles) it has on it - can't be many.

The big dif in snowmobils and quad/dirt bike 2strokes is operating conditions such as dust and dirt.Air filter maintenance is very important.I get 2-3 yrs out of a topend on a 2stroke and have to rebore on each.It is the trade off for the snap and power of a 2stroke.
